Stoke City lacked the necessary firepower to mount a serious assault on a place in the playoffs or the top two spots that guarantee automatic Premier League promotion during the just ended season and they are ready to address that in the new season with the reported interest in Nigerian attacker Awoniyi.

Englishman Nick Powell was the major source of goals for the Potters during the just concluded Championship season from his attacking midfield position to underline the club’s need for a goal-scoring striker that would fire the team into the Premier League.

Stoke City are not the only team interested in a move for Liverpool player Awoniyi. Apart from the Potters, relegated Premier League teams Fulham and West Brom are also keen on the services of the player. The three interested clubs have all been quoted £8m for Awoniyi who has been a Liverpool player since 2018.

The report mentioned earlier stated that the Reds want to offload Awoniyi this summer on his return from his loan spell in the German Bundesliga with capital club Union Berlin. The Liverpool loanee scored five goals plus two assists for Union Berlin who were able to secure their spot in the German Bundesliga for another season.

23-year-old Awoniyi had previously been sent on loan to clubs in Belgium and Germany. He was farmed out on loan to Gent in the Belgian top flight and Mainz 05 in the German Bundesliga before the latest loan move to Union Berlin.
