So that’s that: 35 transfers deals of various descriptions and one managerial change later, the summer window has closed for Stoke City. Alex Neil made his first signing for the club on deadline day when he brought in Dujon Sterling on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea, which turned out to be the 10th new arrival of a busy couple of months.

The recruitment programme started with a coaches’ gathering hosted by Michael O’Neill at the end of last season when it was hoped that Harry Souttar and Nick Powell would be fit for Day One but in the end, injuries – and more injuries to key men – have shaped the plans of both O’Neill and his successor. ARSENAL OPEN TO BALLARD SALE

Premier League heavyweights Arsenal are said to be open to the sale of Northern Ireland international defender Daniel Ballard amidst the interest from English Championship team Stoke City. This is according to the report from the stables of the London Evening Standard.


Northern Irish centre back Ballard will return to Arsenal this summer on the back of an impressive loan spell at Championship club Millwall. He had earlier spent some time on loan at fellow Championship team Blackpool last season. The Arsenal loanee was an integral part of the Blackpool squad that secured promotion to the English Championship from League One via the playoffs at the end of last season. BAKER DENIED SHOCK CHELSEA RECALL

 

Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker was set for shock recall to the team until he tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this week. The Stoke City target was on course to make an appearance against West London rivals Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals until the virus struck. Brentford play hosts to the Blues in one of the three quarterfinal ties scheduled for Wednesday night with a place in the last four up for grabs.

26-year-old Baker was linked with English Championship club Stoke City in the summer and he was on course to make just his second Chelsea appearance in almost eight years before the positive Covid-19 test. He made his Chelsea debut in 2014 and that was his only appearance for the club till date.

CHAMPIONSHIP: STOKE IN BARNSLEY DRAW

Stoke City were unable to build on their win over Hudders field Town in the English Championship at the weekend after they settled for a draw in their latest game at home to Barnsley. The Potters had earlier returned to winning ways after their first defeat of the season in the English Championship.

Michael O’Neill and his Stoke City players were beaten comprehensively by Fulham for their first defeat in the Championship this season. Stoke City were on the end of a 3-0 defeat to hosts Fulham thanks to the goals from Harry Wilson, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Bobby Reid. The Potters bounced back from that first Championship loss this season with the 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town. STOKE CITY ON TRIAL AT BURNLEY

 

Young central defender Harris O’Connor has joined Premier League side Burnley on trial for a period ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season. The Daily Record reported that the 19-year-old defender has joined the Clarets shortly after leaving Scottish Premiership champions Rangers this summer.

The abovementioned Scottish media outlet had earlier reported that Stoke City and Sunderland were interested in the player. Apart from Sunderland and Stoke City, newly promoted Premier League team Watford were also said to be interested in signing the Scottish player.

English Championship giants Stoke City are one of the clubs interested in signing Liverpool striker TaiwoAwoniyi and they have been quoted the asking price for the player. This is according to the report from popular media platform The Athletic.

STOKE CITY COMPLETE THE SIGNING OF MATONDO

 

Stoke City have agreed on personal terms with Schalke 04 winger Rabbi Matondo as the player arrived to complete his medicals and every other finishing touches to the deal. Football Insider exclusively revealed that the Championship club have finally come to an agreement with the German Bundesliga side following weeks of talks as they finalised the transfer discussions.


The Wales International will join Stoke City on loan for the remainder of the season and will undergo his medicals in the next 24 hours to seal his transfer from Germany to England. The bid tabled by Stoke City was finally accepted on Sunday and Matondo was then allowed to travel to England to complete the necessary details regarding the transfer.
